2025: Articles for Counselling Directory:
I occasionally write about themes relating to clinical practice for Counselling Directory.
Why Eye Contact Shouldn't be Expected in Therapy: in this article, I look at eye contact and the ways therapists can create safety for neurodivergent clients.
Therapeutic Endings: Are goodbyes really important?: Here I offer an invitation to think about endings with your therapist.
2024: Love in Gestalt Therapy
I was one of the guest editors for the publication New Gestalt Voices. We presented an issue on the theme of "Love in Gestalt Therapy", which can be viewed and downloaded by clicking here.
"This Special Edition started as a curiosity where direct references to love in gestalt writing felt absent yet present, ‘taboo’ yet reaching to be spoken out. It felt risky and raw, courageous and vulnerable to step into this ‘experiment’ of calling ‘love’ in. Yet ‘we’, the editorial team for this edition – Anne, Helen, Liz and Dawn, had energy to explore this rawness in all its diversity, difficulty and difference. As the topic 'love' rarely has a platform, we particularly welcomed contributions from voices that also do not usually have a platformed publishable space, especially those with minoritised or counter-cultural perspectives within therapy." Supporting neurodiversity in training
Chapter in forthcoming book
One of my current projects is writing a book chapter that aims to support trainers in a consideration of neurodiversity in the training room. I will look at how the theoretical principles of gestalt offer a foundation to make training inclusive not only of neurodivergent people, but supporting all neurodiversity. This chapter explores these theoretical aspects using a neurodivergent lens; I share personal experience and examples, and end with practical suggestions to help support all trainees in their development.

I am also involved in this book project as part of the editorial team. We have been accepting chapters and lived experience pieces on a variety of subjects relating to neurodivergence and gestalt therapy.
Honouring Cyclical Rhythms
I am also working on a year-long autoethnographic field study about honouring cyclical rhythms. I am interested in challenging the linear narratives that are often present in society at large and in the wellness industries. Themes include: the slowness of the body, trauma and embodiment, the phenomenology of the writing process and shame in embodied experience.
Research: Gender euphoria and affirmation in psychotherapy training
Research study for Postgraduate Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy

RESEARCH QUESTION
What has been your lived experience of gender affirmation and/or gender euphoria during psychotherapy training?

STUDY OVERVIEW
-
Type: Heuristic, small-scale qualitative study
-
Participants: Researcher and co-researcher trainee psychotherapists (UKCP-accredited courses)
-
Framework: Inspired by the Taos Institute Relational Research Network, privileging co-created knowing
-
Ethics: Approved by Scarborough Counselling & Psychotherapy Training Institute, UK
-
Date undertaken: 2024

FINDINGS / THEMES
-
Embodied Aliveness: Gender affirmation and euphoria emerge as felt experiences—moments of vitality and truth. Gestalt therapy’s relational and embodied lens can support trainees in bringing their whole selves, including their experience of gender, into the training room.
-
Figure and Ground: Gender experience shifts between figure/ground, often context-dependent. The relational field (peers, tutors, environment) shapes whether affirmation /euphoria becomes visible and possible. Centring affirmation and euphoria highlights relationally-meaningful and precious experiences.
-
Inclusive principles for trainers. These gestalt-based field-relational principles help create a safer environment where affirmation and euphoric experiences become more possible. What would you add?
-
Bodying Forth: Championing diversity. Create space for difference, diversity is an asset
-
The Total Situation: Name Privilege and Power. Transparency builds safety.
-
Lived Experience as Truth: Centre Minoritised Voices. Model visible and proactive contradiction of oppression.
