This page gathers some of my favourite LGBTQIA+ resources for people exploring identity, gender, sexuality, and relationships. These links and readings support self-awareness, affirmation, community, and emotional wellbeing.

Resources about Sexuality

This section offers a small selection of resources to begin exploring sexuality and desire. Sexuality is a deeply personal and evolving part of who we are. These resources are shared as starting points for reflection, helping you connect with your own experience and with community.

Reading: Meg-John Barker

I highly recommend the work of Meg-John Barker, a writer and therapist whose books and zines explore sexuality, gender, and relationships with warmth, clarity, and care. Many of their zines and books are available for free on their website, including their zine Mapping Your Sexuality and their book on Sexuality.

Support: MindOut

MindOut is a brilliant LGBTQ+ mental health charity based in Brighton, offering support to people across the UK. They provide advice, information, advocacy, and peer support for those experiencing mental health challenges. Their website also includes a free online chat service, where you can talk to someone if you’re feeling low or need to connect with an LGBTQ-affirming listener.​

News: QueerAF

QueerAF is an independent UK-based media platform and community interest company uplifting LGBTQIA+ creatives and stories. Through its award-winning podcast, weekly newsletter, and mentoring schemes, it challenges stereotypes and celebrates authentic queer voices. It's a brilliant place to discover queer perspectives and read important news stories.

 

Books/Series: Heartstopper

A tender coming-of-age story following Charlie and Nick as they navigate friendship, love, and identity. Gentle, funny, and full of heart, Heartstopper celebrates queer joy and the importance of being seen and accepted for who you are. Read the graphic novels or watch the series on Netflix. 

Resources about Gender Identity & Expression

Our experience of gender can be fluid, embodied, and relational, shaped by how we see ourselves and how the world meets us. Gestalt therapy offers a way to stay present to these shifting experiences with curiosity and care. This section gathers affirming resources that invite reflection, creativity, and compassion in your journey of gender and self-understanding – including trans, non-binary, and gender-expansive experiences.

Reading: TransReads

Trans Reads is an online library of articles, essays, and essays curated for transgender and non-binary readers.

 

A rich source of knowledge, perspectives, and reflection on gender diversity, this resource supports self-understanding and exploration.
 

Support: Not A Phase

Not a Phase is a wonderful UK charity supporting the wellbeing of Trans+ adults through community groups, exercise and swimming sessions, and online support. Their work focuses on empowerment, inclusion, and improving mental health for Trans+ people across the UK. A great place to find community!

News: TransActual

TransActual is an online magazine covering news, stories, and issues relevant to transgender and non-binary people in the UK.
This resource keeps you informed about current events, community perspectives, and lived experiences, and helps to build awareness and understanding.


 

Video resource: they/THEM

Offering a visual and personal perspective on gender diversity, this film helps to foster empathy and understanding for oneself and others.

 

Asexuality and Aromantic Resources

This section offers a brief introduction to asexual and aromantic identities. The resources below are chosen to support self-understanding, connection, and education for those who identify as ace or aro, and for anyone wishing to learn more. Each one offers a gentle way to begin exploring these experiences and the communities around them.

Reading: Ace Dad Advice

Ace Dad Advice offers thoughtful articles, reflections, and guidance about asexuality and aromanticism from a lived experience perspective.
This resource provides accessible explanations, personal stories, and insights that help with identity exploration, understanding, and validation.


 

Support: AVEN

AVEN (Asexuality Visibility and Education Network) is the leading online community and resource hub for asexual and aromantic people worldwide. It connects you with a supportive community, discussion forums, advice, and peer support for navigating asexuality and aromanticism.

 

Explainer: What is Asexuality?

This accessible guide from the Sounds Fake But Okay podcast explores what asexuality means, helps distinguish it from celibacy or sexual dysfunction, and offers language and insight for people questioning their identity or supporting a loved one.

 

Podcast: Free from Desire

Free from Desire explores asexuality, aromanticism, and diverse sexual experiences through a personal story. This podcast offers real-life perspectives and nuanced discussions, helping listeners understand asexual and aromantic experiences in depth.


 

Resources about Relationship Diversity

This section brings together a few starting points for exploring the many ways people form connection, love, and belonging. The resources here invite reflection on non-traditional relationships, boundaries, and communication — offering perspectives that honour the variety and creativity of human relationships.

Reading: Jessica Fern

Jessica Fern’s work, notably Polysecure and Polywise, offers insightful, trauma‑aware guidance for navigating open relationships, ethical non‑monogamy and multiple partner dynamics. These books bring clarity, practical tools and relational awareness to those exploring relationship diversity. 



 

Support Resources: Polyamory UK

Polyamory UK is the largest collection of polyamory resources in the UK, offering articles, FAQs, book lists, advice and media links for people new to consensual non‑monogamy as well as more experienced practitioners. Its mission is to help normalise open relationships and provide practical, inclusive support for diverse relationship structures.

 

Definitions & Explorations:
Zine by Meg-John Barker

A downloadable zine that invites readers to re‑consider what a “queer relationship” might look like. It offers a thoughtful, inclusive perspective on relationship diversity, helping readers explore non‑traditional relational forms, rethink norms, and experiment with relational creativity and authenticity.


 

Podcast: The Relationship Diversity Podcast

This podcast explores, questions, and celebrates all kinds of relationship structures—from solo‑amory to monogamy to polyamory and everything in between. It's likely to interest those exploring non‑traditional relational forms, ethical non‑monogamy, or simply wanting to understand relationships in a more conscious way.
 

Queer Joy and Resistance

Connection and joy are integral to queer life, not just as relief from hardship, but as expressions of agency, community, and resistance. This section brings together resources that celebrate queer joy and relational richness: ways of looking after one another, building belonging, and imagining futures filled with possibility. The voices here remind us that connection, pleasure, and creativity matter just as much as survival and resilience.

Reading: How to Freedom Dream by Tourmaline

An insightful piece that explores how dreaming and creating free, joyful spaces are vital acts of queer resistance and connection. This article offers a visionary perspective on queer joy, art, and community that inspires beyond trauma-narratives.



 

Art: The Queer Joy Portrait Project

A vibrant visual celebration of queer life, the Queer Joy Portrait Project captures joyful, authentic portraits and stories of LGBTQ+ individuals, offering visibility, affirmation, and connection. A powerful and uplifting resource that reminds us of the strength, beauty, and community in queer existence, beyond struggle and survival.
 

Podcast: Queer Joy: Taking up Space

A four-part podcast exploring queer joy and creativity through performance, activism and collective history. This podcast is great for reflection or listening during rest.
